Gardner may not even be the [center]fielder. The Yankees are at least toying with putting Granderson (fourth most homers, 30, by an AL outfielder last season) in left and employing the superior defense of Gardner in center. Gardner and his defense:

It turns out Gardner’s also a better defender than Curtis Granderson, who everyone has slotted into CF already. If Cashman has his druthers, I imagine Gardner will be manning CF and Granderson will be in LF. “

We like Gardner. We’re OK with Gardner as we’re big believers in defense as well as recognizing we don’t need 20+ home runs out of the 1-9 batting slots.
