Here’s your Yankee lineup, courtesy of LoHud:

1. Nick Swisher RF
2. Curtis Granderson CF
3. Mark Teixeira 1B
4. Alex Rodriguez DH
5. Robinson Cano 2B
6. Andruw Jones LF
7. Eduardo Nunez SS
8. Francisco Cervelli C
9. Ramiro Pena 3B

I love that Joe is giving Swish a shot up top in the leadoff slot against the lefty Derek Holland. That’s an inspired move that will hopefully pay dividends. This is apparently Swish’s first leadoff assignment since 2008.

The Yankees have Ivan Nova on the mound, looking to hurl his second straight quality start.

I knew Ozzie Guillen had led Swisher off but I didn’t realize that we had never done it before. He isn’t the pro-typical leadoff man, but with his ability to work counts, and draw walks it’s a move I like. In fact I talked before the season started about this possibly being the move against lefties, if/when Jeter got dropped into the bottom half of the lineup. I’m just glad Joe is staying away from moving Granderson to leadoff. I have seen a lot of people on TV suggesting doing just that, and I can’t think of a worse thing to do with Granderson right now.

That’s what you want to see. Nova recovering quickly after a bad start, and Teixeira giving him the tie right back in the bottom of the inning.

    OPS+

    Austin Jackson: 96
    Curtis Granderson: 157

Granderson is almost at the WAR total he produced all of last season already.

      2010- 3.6 WAR, .247/.324/.468 with a wOBA of .346 in 528 PAs, 24 HRs, 67 RBI, 12 SB

      2011- 3.5 WAR, .282/.353/.615 with a wOBA of .416 in 285 PAs, 21 HRs, 52 RBI, 10 SB

Nunez! Who needs Jeter anyway? It’s funny that his injury actually corrected a problem with the lineup. Allowing us to team Gardner and Swisher at leadoff, and moving the short stop to the bottom half of the lineup. Not to mention Nunez’ defense is better than Jeter when he’s not throwing wild.

mikeaxisa: Apparently Sterling’s call was “Noony with a moony!”

Noonie was moonin’ on his big one when Hamilton hit that tweener.

Oh, my boy, Ramiro! Single, lineout to the oppo field, and now an excellent demonstration of your sweet lefty swing. Attaboy!

  8. T.O. Chris

Teixeira now tied with Bautista and Granderson for the major league lead!

See, Joe didn’t blindy follow his binder, setting this lineup. He wanted his bench to catch the hittin’ fever.

The back end of the Yankee lineup today isn’t impressive, but if you get this kind of contribution out of them, it’s a lot easier to score runs.

That’s the third time these tail-gunner charlies have taken the pitch on a successful steal.

Neftali is making that pfffft noise.

Scott Kazmir was released today, I know he hasn’t looked good in about a year and a half to two years now but we should try and sign him to a minor league deal. He’ll cost next to nothing, and if he comes in and still can’t do anything you just cut him and never lose anything. He’ll never be what he was, and his numbers are beyond horrendous, but it’s possible with some new coaching he could get to the point where at the least he could come out of the pen. I wouldn’t count on him but if you have already signed Prior, Garcia, Colon, Gordon, etc.. Kazmir isn’t out of line.
