Should the Yankees extend Russell Martin ?

Born in Southwestern Ohio and currently residing on the Chesapeake Bay, Brien is a former editor-in-chief of IIATMS who now spends most of his time sitting on his deck watching his tomatoes ripen and consuming far more MLB Network programming than is safe for one's health or sanity.

I concur. Martin can be the starting catcher and provide value as such for 2012 and perhaps 2013. By then Sanchez or someone else should be able to take over.

I say why not… You give him a 3 year deal now and he stays healthy he still has tremendous trade value in a year or two…

April and August were Martin's only good months in 2011. (Granted, they were VERY good.) Hang on to Martin for 2012, because there's not much else, but start planning for someone else in 2013.
