Yankees announce non-roster invitees

The Yankees have announced their non-roster invitees to Spring Training at present. This includes both free agents signed to minor league contracts like Russell Branyan and Hideki Okajima as well as some of their own prospects and minor leaguers not on the major league roster. In addition to everyone on the 40-man roster, the following players have been extended an invitation to camp:

Pitchers

Manny Banuelos
Dan Burawa
Juan Cedeno
Matt Daley
Manny Delcarmen
Brett Marshall
Adam Miller
Mike O’Connor
Hideki Okajima
Ryan Pope
Graham Stoneburner
Adam Warren
Kevin Whelan
Chase Whitley

Catchers:

Jose Gil
Kyle Higashioka
Gustavo Molina
J.R. Murphy
Gary Sanchez

Infielders:

Doug Bernier
Russell Branyan
Bill Hall
Jorge Vazquez
Jayson Nix

Outfielders:

Colin Curtis
Cole Garner
Dewayne Wise

Non-roster invites are fun. They’re why we get to see Manny Banuelos make Kevin Youkilis look silly with a nasty changeup on national television and why the Eric Chavezes and Bartolo Colons get a chance to play their hearts out for a chance at one more go-round in the show. Most of these guys won’t make the team, obviously, and a lot of them won’t even get much, if any, playing time in actual spring training games, but they will provide some of the more watchable moments early in the spring, and many of them certainly will have the opportunity to play their way onto the roster. Branyan, Hall, and Okajima, in particular, stand out as guys with a real shot at making the team (as the roster stands now, anyway) if they have strong showings in Tampa.

Not to nitpick or anything, and I may be missing in on some kind of inside joke, but shouldn't it be Chase Whitley (one E) the pitcher and Jayson Nix the infielder?

    P.S. Doug Bernier… nostalgia…
