Casual observation

I’m 99.999% sure that this says quite a bit more about Wallace Matthews and the priorities of ESPN New York than it does about A.J. Burnett.

    He's such a douche.

There are many interesting comments in the comments section there. Certainly better reads than the actual article. I guess the slogan for them should be: Come for hilariously moronic posts, stay for the funny comments.

Yeah, I don't get the bagging on AJ AT ALL for the non-baseball stuff. Sure, say he was terrible at times (and he WAS maddening! Though like Jason, I watched his first couple of starts in Spring Training last year and his curveball was ON), but the off-field stuff? For a guy who was, as far as I could tell, universally loved in the clubhouse and the media for being down-to-earth, funny, approachable and a good teammate?

    I guess I wouldn't make it as a NY "sportswriter"… ;)

Talk about mean-spirited. Wow – what amazing unkindness and egocentricity from a professional writer.

Pretty sophomoric to dance on a mans grave like that. Not to mention a bit premature eh?

  6. Being able to freely discuss/mock/trash Wallace Matthews is my/our single biggest benefit from leaving ESPN. Seriously.

      hmmm…been waiting for that comment…

Not that I intend to make a habit out of it, but I accidentally ran across that one *twice* and it really irked me. If there's one thing Burnett doesn't deserve it's personal attacks like that, especially not with the single biggest pitching performance of a World Series winning season relegated to mere afterthought.

It's sad really. We're talking about AJ possibly getting shipped to Pittsburgh. Do we really need to kick a man when he is down?

Wallace Matthews is a known Yankee Hater. He got fired by Newsday. How or why ESPN hired him is beyond me? Oh wait, because he hates the Yankees, thats right.
