Pettitte leaves game early with broken ankle

Born in Southwestern Ohio and currently residing on the Chesapeake Bay, Brien is a former editor-in-chief of IIATMS who now spends most of his time sitting on his deck watching his tomatoes ripen and consuming far more MLB Network programming than is safe for one's health or sanity.

Out 6 weeks with ankle fracture. Evidently no surgery is required.

Looks like Garcia will have plenty of opportunities to start games between now and September.

How I long for the days when the biggest thing I had to worry about was batting average with runners in scoring position.

Clearly this is all because of the wisecracks I was making about Freddy in our chat this weekend…i apologize…

Seriously, though – this is a bummer. Hope Andy is back and ready as soon as possible.

Do we know a timeframe for Joba? I think Cashman said a month or so ago that he thought Joba would pitch this season. I just wonder how far along he is.

    • Mid-August, give or take. I’d guess. He’s throwing to live hitters now, so it’s realistic that he’ll be back sometime before the end of the season.
