I have to ask, why was this even a point of discussion with the team, or anyone else? Jones has done nothing since the All-Star break. He can't even hit lefties anymore, the only role he has. Seems like the utimate no-brainer to me.
If there's one complaint that Girardi seems to elicit (binder and overmanaging aside) it's his predilection for veterans and playing the salaries — so there was some concern Jones would be left on, even if not deserving because, y'know, 1996!
