Sunday morning Yankees news and notes: 3/3/12

Good morning, it’s Sunday March 3, 2012 and here are some Yankees’ news and notes.

Ichiro Suzuki was in a car accident yesterday in Tampa. He’s fine – thank goodness – but his car isn’t. Look, can we hide Brett Gardner somewhere so he can’t get eaten by an alligator or something ridiculous like that? I’m starting to get worried about the outfielders.

Word this morning is that Ichiro is not sore or in any kind of major pain. Hopefully that will last.

Here’s the lineup that’s going to “renew the rivalry” down in Fort Myers (Just kidding):

Brett Gardner LF
Eduardo Nunez SS
Jayson Nix 2B
Juan Rivera DH
Dan Johnson 1B
Melky Mesa CF
Zoilo Almonte RF
Corban Joseph 3B
Bobby Wilson C

RHP Adam Warren

Yes, you are reading this correctly, Jayson Nix is batting third and Juan Rivera is batting clean up. Gardner is the only regular in the lineup and like I said above, let’s hope there isn’t an alligator issue at JetBlue Park.

According to numerous tweets from Yankees camp, Phil Hughes played catch and survived. He made 25 throws from 60 feet and didn’t have any issues with his back. He will throw again tomorrow and they will reevaluate him.
