We all held our collective breath this afternoon when Derek Jeter was scratched from the Yankees’ spring training game against the Phillies. In light of that, Jeter had precautionary X-Rays and an MRI done by Dr. Daniel Murphy. The X-Rays came back negative, though the MRI showed “mild inflammation” in his injured ankle. He’s now listed at day-to-day, which is a lot better than it could’ve been, but I don’t think anyone’d blame us if we were more than a wee bit concerned about this.

Sad to say, Derek, just call it quits…..I have no respect for overpaid athletes. But you are an exception…The odds are massively stacked against you….Just retire, and come back as a coach to help Nunez………
You were a shining light in a sea of waves…….
Way to give up on the guy so easily. Thankfully HOF players don't have your attitude
Agreed.
Wow the guy led the AL in hits last year. Of course we dont want to see someone whose meant so much to the organization embarrass himself but come on. I agree that at 39 the organization should take a year to year approach with him but believe me I work in the medical field. Feeling soreness on a repaired broken ankle after playing a professional sporting event is perfectly normal.
Was that a troll post? Did we just get trolled?
I mentioned this last year when the team collapsed mentally without him in the ALCS but it bears repeating…
We SERIOUSLY need to stop taking Jeter's leadership for granted…
He's the best leader in the sport, maybe the best leader in any of the 3 major american sports (he has a pretty strong case now that Ray Lewis is retired)…. and he's not gonna be around forever
From trying too hard to make opening day?
Which, I too want to see – but not at the cost of further damage. Not that I'm thrilled about Tex's take it easy attitude, either – there should be some happy middle ground between rabidly wanting to come back, at the expense of injury, and taking the decade off to avoid any chance of reinjury.
