Quick hit: Yankees agree to terms with Chien-Ming Wang

I know, you probably wanted a snappy, slightly perverted headline and believe me, I was tempted to do it but I figured Chien-Ming Wang deserved a little more than that. We’ll save the funnier headlines for the season.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Yankees and Wang have agreed to terms on what’s most likely a Minor League deal. Wang had been in Tampa and throwing for the Yankees this week and was at Billy Connor’s house this winter throwing for him as well, so it was almost a certainty that he’d be signed.

Wang posted a 6.68 ERA and 2.01 WHIP in 32.3 innings for the Washington Nationals in an injury-plagued 2012. He recently pitched for Chinese Taipei in the World Baseball Classic and while the team didn’t advance very far, Wang was impressive in his limited action – he allowed no runs and only 10 hits over 12 total innings. He walked one batter and struck out three.

I’m glad he’s back. I always liked him and wanted the Yankees to resign him after the injury and try to get him back to where he was. I hope he does so well he forces them to bring him up even if the rotation as is is doing well. (Besides, my mother-in-law’s name is Wang, although she’s from the mainland, not Taiwan.)

Yankees pay just the right price for Wang.

OK it looks like to many of you watched the Bates Motel Premier. Time to get back to baseball. BTW, the Yankees did indeed sign Chien-Ming Wang to a Minor League contract.

And, if the Yankee pitching staff falters this season, I can just hear the cries from the stands. "We want Wang! We want Wang!"

    (Sorry, I couldn't help myself)

At times in the WBC, Wang really looked untouchable.
