Quick hit: Matsui to sign a one-day contract

Reports have surfaced that the Yankees will be signing Hideki Matsui to a one-day contract so he can retire in Pinstripes. According to George King of the New York Post:

Plans are in the works for Hideki Matsui to sign a one-day contract with the Yankees and ceremoniously retire as a member of the team he spent seven seasons with and became a fan favorite.

The Yankees have a Bobblehead Day planned for on July 28 at Yankee Stadium planned for Matsui, who retired from baseball in December.

I love this idea and I cannot wait to see what the Yankees do for Matsui. I was there on Opening Day 2010 when the 2009 Championship team received their rings and Matsui, who was there as a visiting player with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, was honored by his teammates.

I’m sure if they choose July 28 as the day to honor Matsui, it will be a great afternoon for him and for the fans in attendance. And on a personal note, I will be thrilled because July 28 is a Sunday and I have tickets for that day.
