The All Star break is only a couple of weeks away. Though it won’t be in the Bronx, most Yankee fans will be able to commute to Citi Field this year to see Robinson Cano lead the Home Run Derby and Mariano Rivera (hopefully) close out his last All Star game. There’s also an All-Star Futures Game to look forward to, and the Yankees’ organization has already claimed one spot with RHP Rafael DePaula. There are two open between the US Team and World Team, and the Yankees’ very own Tyler Austin is eligible in this year’s fan vote. He’s going up against some stiff competition in the Mets’ Brandon Nimmo, the Tigers’ Nick Castellanos, the Red Sox Garin Cecchini, and the White Sox’ Courtney Hawkins.
Austin has hit .273/.365/.393 with 5 home runs this season in the pitcher-friendly Trenton Thunder Baseball Stadium. (He owns an .851 OPS on the road) With park factors added into the equation, Austin has a .349 wOBA on the season, and that’s after producing a .388 wOBA in Tampa last year. Over the last month, Austin has been heating up, and perhaps he’s gotten a bit more comfortable with the Eastern League, putting up a .327/.381/.485 slash in his last 113 plate appearances. That includes 3 home runs, 7 doubles, 2 stolen bases, 19 strike outs, and 9 walks.
Now he needs your help to get to Citi Field. Vote for Tyler Austin right here.
