Braves scout Jim Fregosi watched Chamberlain pitch a scoreless inning Friday night in Baltimore, when his fastball was clocked in the mid-90s.
The Giants sent scout Lee Elder to Target Field for last night’s Twins-Yankees game exclusively to watch Chamberlain. He posted another scoreless frame but walked and hit a batter.
Chamberlain, who had an oblique injury in May, has a 5.75 ERA in 20 1/3 innings this year. He started off strong before the injury but he’s had issues since coming off the DL. One positive from him is that he has been hitting 95-97 lately. He just needs to work on his secondary pitches, particularly his slider which hasn’t been working for him.
Chamberlain is in a contract year and it’s more than likely that he wouldn’t be re-signed by the Yankees this winter.
UPDATE 12:40 P.M.: Hmm, not so fast says Hank Schulman who covers the Giants for the San Francisco Chronicle.
With due respect to my friend GK3 at the NY Post, #sfgiants scout Elder was in Minn last night to see Twins bullpen, not Joba.
