The Yankees actually have a four game sweep under their belt this season. Back in April, the Yankees beat the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium four straight games in a row, and set a big distance in the standings between the one time AL East favorites. The team will send David Phelps up against Kyle Gibson and the Twins this afternoon, and attempt to jump right back into the AL East with their second four game sweep of the year.
David Phelps will have to over come his recent cold spell, where in his last three games he’s only thrown 14 innings, given up 15 earned runs (9.64 ERA), 26 hits, 5 walks (2.214 WHIP), and only 7 strike outs. Phelps was once cruising with a 3.90 ERA in his previous 62.1 innings, so hopefully he finds that sort of production this afternoon.
Meanwhile Kyle Gibson will make just his second major league start of his career after earning a win against the Royals last week. Here’s the lineup that the right-hander will face today.
The game starts at 2:10 PM EST on YES. Happy 4th of July!
