Travis Hafner was pulled from tonight’s game despite Wade Davis remaining in. He went 0 for 2 before Vernon Wells came into replace the designated hitter. This looks to be more than a pinch-hitting situation, and considering Hafner’s injury history and .572 OPS since May, it wouldn’t be shocking to learn that he’s been playing through something serious.
UPDATE: (9:39 PM) Both Brett Gardner and Hafner left tonight’s game with contusions. Not sure how it happened, but Hafner has a left foot contusion. Gardner was hit by a pitch late in the game and remained in to run the bases, he ended up with a right foot contusion. Both X-rays were negative, and they’re both day-to-day.
