King: Rothschild on the verge of returning

According to George King of the New York Post, pitching coach Larry Rothschild is close to inking a contract extension to stay in the Bronx.

This isn’t unexpected news because we were told by Brian Cashman in his press conference following the end of the Yankees’ 2013 season that if Joe Girardi returned, it was likely that his entire coaching staff would be back as well. But it should be noted that in the same article, King mentioned that the Seattle Mariners have expressed an interest in third base coach Rob Thomson for their vacant managerial spot. The Mariners have only discussed the move internally and have not yet contacted the Yankees.

The coaching staff’s contracts expire October 31.
