Non-Tenders: Jayson Nix, David Adams, and Matt Daley

Anthony McCarron of the NY Daily News reports that the Yankees will non-tender infielders Jayson Nix and David Adams, as well as relief pitcher Matt Daley. Tonight is the non-tender deadline, and with these 3 moves, the Yankees now have 4 open spots on their 40 man roster. One of those spots will go to Brian McCann.

The Yankees like to be active during the upcoming Rule 5 draft. They should have 3 spots to play with during that last day of the winter meetings, but it’s unlikely that the team will need all of them. Having so much room on the roster will allow them flexibility in case something wild happens like a signing or trade within the next couple of days. Again, these signings or trades can be delayed, but we’re still more than a week and half away from the Rule 5 draft.

In those same comments about the non-tenders, Cashman included words about remaining in active conversation with non-Cano free agents, and the standing offer on Hiroki Kuroda. Again, it seems that the Yankees are aggressive at the moment, and there’s a chance they’ll have a new player to add to the roster before December 12th.

I linked to this in the last post, but JJ Cooper did a good job of breaking down the upcoming Rule 5 draft class, check it out.
