Heyman: Kelly Johnson deal is done

It was first reported yesterday that the Yankees were close to signing Kelly Johnson and now they have. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the deal is 1-year and worth $3M. It’s just pending a physical.

Johnson can play second, third and the outfield (corners mostly), batted .235/.305/.410 with 16 home runs and 52 RBI in 118 games this past season for Tampa. I know people were goofing and saying he was signed in case the Yankees couldn’t sign Robinson Cano but Johnson is really more for insurance because he can play a few positions. (God, I hope so.)

His career line is .253/.335/.427.
