Empty Locker Alert!: Claiborne, Miller, Tateyama, Herndon, and Sizemore

According to Chad Jennings, five more lockers have gone empty this morning. Preston Claiborne, Jim Miller, Yoshinori Tateyama, David Herndon, and Scott Sizemore have each cleared out their lockers in Florida, and the assumption is that they’ve been cut from 25-man team. This isn’t to say we won’t see them later on in the year, as most of these guys will be optioned down to the minors. Dellin Betances, Vidal Nuno, and Cesar Cabral are now fighting for 2 open bullpen positions.

Update: (9:01 AM) Looks like there are a couple more cuts. Zoilo Almonte, Russ Canzler, Fred Lewis, and Chris Leroux are all gone as well. Looks like Ichiro Suzuki‘s chances of making the club have slightly increased with Almonte getting sent down. Today’s game will feature Eduardo Nunez, Yangervis Solarte, Dean Anna, Zelous Wheeler, and Adonis Garcia as starters, and each of these guys are fighting for the final position spots on the 25-man roster. Big game for them, which you can catch on YES at 1:05 PM if you’re around.
