At the quarter point of the season, the Yankees sit one game out of first in the AL East, despite sporting the worst run differential in the division. In fact, they are tied with the Pirates for 23rd in the Majors with a -13 mark, nestled between the last in the East Rays and the last in the Central Indians. The season is still young enough that run differential is fairly meaningless – the Yankees gap can be explained away by the 16-1 drubbing at the hands of the Rays, to be fair. Yet it still goes to show just how quirky a game baseball can be.
