Brian Roberts was moved up to the two-hole in yesterday’s lineup and he had himself a game in Minnesota.
He finished with four extra base hits – three doubles and a triple – and is the first Yankee to record four extra base hits in a game without a home run since Jim Mason in 1974. (Courtesy of MLBStatOfTheDay)
As you can see, he was taking advantage when pitches were left over the plate.
Roberts’ triple came on the first pitch of the at bat while his first two doubles were hit when he was down 1-2 in the count. His seventh inning double came on a 3-2 count. His first two hits were off starter Kyle Gibson, his triple was against Sam Deduno and his final hit was off Glen Perkins.
