Game 92: Let’s End the First Half on a High Note

Adam Jones is in the midst of what may be his best season, despite posting a career-worst 2.8% walk rate – and, no, that isn’t a typo. The 34-year-old Nelson Cruz (the one that went unsigned until late February) is likewise in the midst of a career year, needing only five home runs to match his previous career-high (and he has three in nine July games). And Manny Machado has been tearing the cover off of the ball since his bat-throwing incident in early June.

In short, the Orioles seem to be the Bizarro Yankees – at least insofar as recent luck is concerned. If a bit of that luck can rub off on the Yankees, allowing them to sweep this series, they would sit a game back of first with a much-needed four game breather coming up.

Wouldn’t that be lovely?
