Sunday Evening News And Notes: 8/3/14

A few odds and ends before tonight’s super huge, ginormous, monumental rubber match against the Sawx.

Via Sweeny Murti, Luis Severino was scratched from his scheduled start today with what’s being called “very slight” right oblique soreness.  Better safe than sorry, and as long as it’s not an arm issue it sounds like there isn’t much to worry about here.

Michael Pineda made his first official MiL rehab start earlier today for SWB.  He threw 3.1 scoreless innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 walk, struck out 4, and threw 58 pitches.  Assuming he wakes up tomorrow and feels fine, I figure he’ll make at least 1 more rehab start and maybe another before rejoining the rotation.

– The Dellin BetancesMike Napoli matchup in the 8th inning last night was a clash of the titans.  Betances finally struck him out after a 10-pitch battle and the Fenway Park radar gun had his final fastball at 101 MPH.  He averaged 99.2 MPH on his fastball for the night, so he must have been feeling good.

– We’ll have the full lineups up later for the game thread, but all the recent acquisitions will be in there together tonight.  Best looking lineup in a loooooong time.

About Brad Vietrogoski

Born in Dover, Delaware and raised in Danbury, Connecticut, Brad now resides in Wisconsin, where he regularly goes out of his way to remind Brewers fans that their team will never be as good as the Yankees. When he’s not writing for IIATMS, he likes to spend his time incorporating “Seinfeld” quotes into everyday conversation, critiquing WWE storylines, and drinking enough beer to be good at darts.
