Report: Phillies interested in Joba

According to Mark Feinsand of the Daily News, the Philadelphia Phillies are interested in Joba Chamberlain and are willing to part with infielder Michael Young and possibly even catcher Carlos Ruiz.

National League sources say the Phillies are amenable to dealing Michael Young and have expressed interest in Joba Chamberlain, a salary-dump swap that would save Philadelphia roughly $7 million. The sources also say Carlos Ruiz can be had before the deadline, too.

Hmm, not sure what to make of this. Chamberlain is most likely gone after this year anyway and both Young and Ruiz would be considered upgrades when compared to the players the Yankees have been sending out there on the field daily this season. I was at last night's game and the bottom four of the lineup was the biggest black hole I've seen in years.

My friend had pointed out that all four - at one point in the game - were at or below the Mendoza line and I joked that Austin Romine's .132 average was my weight when I was a senior in high school.

Yikes.
