Game 114: Return to New York

I'm not sure what the weather is like in the Bronx right now but the skies in Rockland County are menacing and dark. The thunder is beginning to rumble in the distance and it looks like we're seconds away from a downpour. It's pouring right now. So here we are, it's August 9 and Alex Rodriguez is finally making his debut in front of the home crowd - weather permitting. The big angle to this ongoing saga is the "Will the home crowd boo A-Rod?" and people are making their predictions.

Here's my prediction: Yes they will. They booed him before Biogenesis and they'll continue to boo him.

Tonight, Ivan Nova faces off against Rick Porcello and the Tigers have rolled into New York on a 12-game winning streak. The odds are stacked against the Yankees right now. And I hate to be a fatalist but I can see a sweep at the hands of Detroit this weekend which would basically kill any chances the Yankees have of possibly making the playoffs. You'd think this past 2-6 road trip in L.A., San Diego and Chicago would have done that but I think this next stretch of games could be the final nail in the coffin.

Enough of the depressing stuff, here are the lineups:

TIGERS Austin Jackson CF Torii Hunter RF Miguel Cabrera 3B Prince Fielder 1B Victor Martinez DH Andy Dirks LF Brayan Pena C Hernan Perez 2B Jose Iglesias SS

YANKEES Brett Gardner CF Ichiro Suzuki RF Robinson Cano 2B Alfonso Soriano DH Alex Rodriguez 3B Curtis Granderson LF Lyle Overbay 1B Eduardo Nunez SS Chris Stewart C
