Welcome Mark Reynolds

MLB.com Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees and corner infielder Mark Reynolds have agreed to a deal. The Yankees will be on the hook for just the league minimum remaining on his 2013 contract, after the Indians released him.

I wrote a bit about Reynolds just yesterday, along with a number of other options, and honestly he made the most sense to me. Reynolds will be able to relieve Alex Rodriguez on days when he needs to DH, as well as platoon with Lyle Overbay against left-handed pitchers. Even in this down year, Reynolds can still hit lefties very well, and he's currently showing a 111 wRC+ against southpaws.

The strikeouts might not be great, but Reynolds is a big upgrade over Jayson Nix or Eduardo Nunez at third base, as well as a better hitting first base option than Overbay versus lefties.
