Tuesday evening/night open thread

I figured I'd put up an open thread on the off chance that people are watching the two playoffs games being played tonight and just in case they wanted to talk about what they are watching. You can discuss the games, the weather, Joe Girardi's decision, A-Rod's lawsuits, the government shutdown-- on second thought, let's not delve into politics in this thread. We'll try to keep it fun.

Or maybe we can talk about this date in history. A couple of cool things happened on October 8. For instance, on this date in 1927, the Yankees beat the Pirates, 4-3 and swept the World Series in four games. In 1956, Don Larsen pitched his perfect game which helped the Yankees take a three games to two lead in the World Series. Unfortunately, a couple of not-so-cool things also happened on this date in Yankees' history. In 1995, the Yankees lost the ALDS to Seattle in extra innings. Damn you, Jack McDowell! Also, on this date in 2007, the Indians beat the Yankees to advance to the ALCS. It also meant the end of Joe Torre's tenure as Yankees manager. I was at the game and it was the first elimination loss I experienced in person. It was awful.

Anyway, keep the thread friendly and have a nice evening!
