The Yankees just announced that Derek Jeter has signed a one-year/$12 million contract for the 2014 season. This would be considered a raise given the $9.5M player option he could have exercised. I guess the Yankees liked what they saw in the 17 games Jeter played last season. Maybe someone spiked someone's drink and led them to make this decision? Or maybe there's a monetary thing I don't know about because I'm awful with contracts, numbers and math. I'm going with option # 3. Update: Paying Jeter more will actually save the Yankees money under the limit.
