I know that David Robertson and Dellin Betances had pitched on both Thursday and Friday, but it was nevertheless incredibly frustrating to see Matt Thornton on the mound in extra innings; particularly against so many right-handed batters. Granted, it was Francisco Cervelli's error that gave the Twins the win - but Thornton gave up a great deal of hard contact, and was bailed out by strong defense more than once. The Yankees do not have an off-day until the All-Star Break, so it will be interesting to see how Joe Girardi manages the ailing lineup and overworked bullpen over the next week. If last night was any indication, the team may need to scavenge another bullpen arm from somewhere - be it from within the organization, or on the market.
