Scattered thoughts about baseball on a Monday morning

Random thoughts time!

  • Can I admit that I barely watched any baseball this weekend?
  • I just wasn't in the mood for it.
  • And I definitely made the right choice and Friday and Saturday, though I was mad I missed A-Rod's 666th home run.
  • 666 is perfect because he's the devil.
  • I hope he stays on that number for a little bit.
  • Though I'm a tad disappointed that hit #3,000 wasn't also home run #666 because that would have been epic.
  • The Yankees are like a roller coaster this year.
  • They are up, down and all around.
  • Normally I like roller coasters.
  • The higher, the better.
  • But that's not how I like to watch baseball.
  • If my team has a long winning streak, I'd prefer for it to not be followed by a long losing streak.
  • Speaking of streaks, what the hell has gotten into the Blue Jays? They can't lose.
  • And what the hell is wrong with the Red Sox? They're really dreadful.
  • Let's hope it stays that way.
  • For Boston.
  • Not for Toronto.
  • So the Yankees are three days into their 20-day long stretch of games and they're 1-2. Oy.
  • Let's hope #TANAK pitches well against the Marlins.
  • Ivan Nova could be coming back soon.
  • Same goes Jacoby Ellsbury.
  • I miss Ellsbury.
  • I also miss when the bullpen didn't cough up a lot of runs.
  • Saturday night's game was annoying because A-Rod's home run tied the game, gave the Yankees some life and then the bullpen gave up a bunch of runs the next inning.
  • How frustrating.
  • Oh and how about Mason Williams this weekend? He hits his first MLB home run and makes that crazy catch. Nice job., kid
  • Can I go back to talking about Boston for a second? I mean, they are really terrible. The Blue Jays embarrassed them this weekend.
  • They're 3-7 in their last 10 and have lost six games in a row.
  • I probably shouldn't complain too much about the Yankees at the moment because they're 7-3 in their last 10 games.
  • And again, the Blue Jays are on quite a roll, but what stinks for them is while they were on that 11-game winning streak, the Yankees didn't fall off a cliff and are still one game up.
  • The key to having a long-ass winning streak is to do it when the first place team is in a funk.
  • Toronto is now heading to Queens to face the Mets. I wonder what will happen in that home and home.
  • This is the AL East faces the NL East week: Yankees-Marlins, Red Sox-Braves, Rays-Nationals, Blue Jays-Mets and Orioles-Phillies.
  • And hey, here's a fun fact about the AL East that I saw on Twitter yesterday evening: It's the only division with four teams at .500 or better, and at the top of division, four teams separated by three games. I guess I should stop calling it the AL Least for now.
  • Oh, and I don't know if I should mention this because it will probably send the Yankees into a tailspin but they have a better winning percentage than the Mets at the moment. Maybe that's why I'm hearing less squawking from Queens these days?
  • I know, I know, who cares about the Mets but they're the ones who were going to "take over New York" this season.
  • I hate to break it to them but that dream ended when Chris Heston no-hit them last week.
  • So try again in 2016, guys.
  • A-Rod is sitting on 2,995 hits right now. When do we think 3,000 is happening and where do we thinking it's happening?
  • I'm thinking it will be at home this weekend.
  • Maybe on Friday night against the Tigers. Actually, I guess it would depend on who's pitching, right?
  • Hold on (I'm actually going to look this up right now.)
  • Okay, Alfredo Simon is pitching for the Tigers and Alex has only faced him in seven at bats. He's walked once and struck out twice.
  • Hmmm, maybe I'll rethink my prediction.
  • Maybe Saturday? I don't know who is pitching.

Enjoy your morning!
