Flashback: July 3, 2010

So with the off day yesterday and not much to write about, I figured I'd do a flashback post. I know, nice cop out. I decided on the game from five years ago today because I looked back further and the Yankees lost in the other years and I wanted to write about a win. Truth be told, I looked at this boxscore and was slightly disturbed because I do not recall the game at all. And if I can't remember things from five years ago but can remember things from 20 years ago, does it mean I am becoming like an old person? Oh dear.

Anyway, the Yankees were playing Toronto at home on July 3, 2010 with Andy Pettitte matched up against Jays' starter Ricky Romero.

In the first inning, the Blue Jays jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to a Jose Bautista two-run shot. Shocking. Doesn't he always hit home runs?

After a scoreless bottom of the first, second inning and top of the third, the Yankees came up and this happened:

  • Brett Gardner singles on a line drive to right fielder Jose Bautista.
  • Derek Jeter walks. Brett Gardner to 2nd.
  • Nick Swisher singles on a soft fly ball to left fielder John McDonald. Brett Gardner to 3rd. Derek Jeter to 2nd.
  • Mark Teixeira doubles (16) on a ground ball to left fielder John McDonald. Brett Gardner scores. Derek Jeter scores. Nick Swisher to 3rd.
  • Alex Rodriguez grounds out softly, shortstop Alex Gonzalez to first baseman Lyle Overbay. Nick Swisher scores. Mark Teixeira to 3rd.
  • Robinson Cano singles on a line drive to right fielder Jose Bautista. Mark Teixeira scores.
  • Coaching visit to mound.
  • Jorge Posada flies out to center fielder Vernon Wells.
  • Curtis Granderson singles on a soft ground ball to second baseman Aaron Hill. Robinson Cano to 2nd.
  • Chad Huffman hit by pitch. Robinson Cano to 3rd. Curtis Granderson to 2nd.
  • Brett Gardner hits a grand slam (4) to right field. Robinson Cano scores. Curtis Granderson scores. Chad Huffman scores.
  • Pitching Change: Brian Tallet replaces Ricky Romero.
  • Coaching visit to mound.
  • Derek Jeter walks.
  • Nick Swisher walks. Derek Jeter to 2nd.
  • With Mark Teixeira batting, wild pitch by Brian Tallet, Derek Jeter to 3rd. Nick Swisher to 2nd.
  • Mark Teixeira walks.
  • Alex Rodriguez doubles (20) on a fly ball to center fielder Vernon Wells. Derek Jeter scores. Nick Swisher scores. Mark Teixeira scores.
  • Robinson Cano flies out to right fielder Jose Bautista.

The Yankees' tally that inning: 11 runs, 7 hits, 0 errors, 1 LOB and it's all they'd score.

The Blue Jays added a run in the sixth on a solo home run by Alex Gonzalez but the relievers, Dustin Moseley and Chan Ho Park, held the Jays hitless in three innings of work with two strike outs.

Am I the only who forgot about this game? How does one forget game in which your favorite team scores 11 runs in one inning?

Happy Friday.
