Via MLB Trade Rumors,
"As the Yankees and White Sox continue to explore trade arrangements involving highly valued southpaw Jose Quintana, the organizations have now also “expanded” their discussions to include Chicago closer David Robertson, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). The Sox would keep part of the remaining $25MM left on Robertson’s contract in any agreement."
Taking Robertson would conceivably lower the price of Jose Quintana, although the price would still be considerable. Robertson would be the 3rd best relief pitcher in the Yankee bullpen, although I bet they use him in the 8th inning. Dellin Betances would be used much more as a fireman.
Given the choice between taking on some salary for a decent (though not great) player and sending a good prospect the other way, I'll pay in money any time. The Yankees can afford it, especially after this season.
