The Yankees completed their 10-game home stand with an impressive 7-3 record against the Red Sox, the Royals and the White Sox and will play their next seven games out west—three in Arizona and four in Oakland. After that, they're home for three games against the Blue Jays, and then will once again be go on the road for, get this, another 10 days. They won't be back home for an "extended" home stand until June 5.
So what does this mean for them? It means that they'll need to play as well as they did at home. It's a very tall order, especially because during that 10-day trip, they will be playing the Rays, the Jays (again in Toronto) and the Orioles. Oh, and there's a make up game with the Tigers thrown in there for good measure. That's a lot of games within the division, and if the Yankees revert back to the way they were playing in April, they will be in a heap of trouble by the time they come home.
The good news is they should be firing on all cylinders by the time that big divisional road trip occurs because most of the injured guys should be back.
What about tonight's game in Arizona? Well, the Yankees have rookie Chad Green starting. Wait, who?
"Green, 24, is from Illinois and attended the University of Louisville. He was part of a trade last winter that sent lefty reliever Justin Wilson to the Detroit Tigers in return for Green and starter Luis Cessa, who broke camp with the team and is back in Triple-A."
He has a 1.22 ERA in 37 innings with 36 strikeouts so far this season.
Anyway, feel free to comment below and use this as an open thread. We'll be posting a game thread for tonight's game around 9:00 p.m.
