Game 64: Eovaldi vs. De La Rosa

Tonight marks the beginning of what should be a very telling stretch for the Yankees - a team that fancies itself as a contender. Their next eleven games include two against the Rockies in Colorado, four against the Twins in Minnesota, two against the Rockies at home, and then three more against the Twins at home. The Rockies currently sit at 30-33, having won six of their last eight, but they are a mediocre at best team that a true playoff team should makes short work of. And the Twins are ... the Twins. They're the worst team in the American League, and only the willfully awful Braves are worse overall.

If the Yankees hope to contend, they need to start beating up on these sorts of teams. Let's see if they can start tonight. Here's the lineup:

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
  2. Brett Gardner, LF
  3. Starlin Castro, 2B
  4. Brian McCann, C
  5. Chase Headley, 3B
  6. Rob Refsnyder, 1B
  7. Didi Gregorius, SS
  8. Aaron Hicks, RF
  9. Nathan Eovaldi, SP

I look at this lineup (as well as the disabled list) and wonder if the Yankees regret not giving Alex Rodriguez a bit more time at first. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:40 PM EST.
