Game 93: Worley vs. Eovaldi

On May 25, I wrote some incredibly glowing things about Nathan Eovaldi. I praised his newfound consistency, and, breaking from my usual trope, stated that there was good reason to be optimistic about the 26-year-old. He followed-up that post with a strong start on May 29, tossing 6.0 IP, allowing 6 hits, one run, and two walks, while striking out 7. Things were looking up.

And then Eovaldi allowed 31 runs in his next six starts. His overall line during that stretch: 30.1 IP, 45 H, 12 BB, 19 K, 12 HR, 9.20 ERA, .344/.399/.710 slash line against. His ERA on the season jumped from 3.71 to 5.54 as a result, and he was sent to the bullpen for a couple of weeks. Tonight represents his return to the rotation, against a tough Orioles offense - the same offense that pummeled him on June 3, kick-starting this downward spiral.

Here's tonight's lineup:

  1. Brett Gardner, LF
  2. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
  3. Carlos Beltran, RF
  4. Brian McCann, C
  5. Alex Rodriguez, DH
  6. Didi Gregorius, SS
  7. Starlin Castro, 2B
  8. Chase Headley, 3B
  9. Rob Refsnyder, 1B

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
