If you follow me on Twitter, you know I set the over/under for runs scored in this series at 10.5. I predicted 8 and and a Yankee split in the series despite the low run total, so the bats are really going to have to go to sleep these next 2 days to make that happen. Whatever, I'll take the win. I didn't watch or follow a lick of this game, so here are the bullet points.
- Ivan Nova gave the Yankees 5.1 innings of 4-run ball and Joe was happy to take that and a lead. Nova struck out 6 and didn't walk a batter, so it wasn't like it was all smoke and mirrors out there. he got himself into trouble in the 6th by giving up back-to-back leadoff doubles.
- After Nova it was Chapillances time and Joe rode them hard, using them for the final 11 outs. The line: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K. I hope all the real playoff contenders were watching that one.
- It was Gardner and Ellsbury at the top (each 2-5 with an RBI) and Didi (2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, and another homer) and Headley (2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB) at the bottom driving the offense last night. How either of them are still hitting below Starlin Castro is beyond me.
- The final out of the game came under review after Joe challenged the call on the field. If the call on the field would have stood, Chapman would have had the bases loaded and 2 outs. Helluva time to challenge and helluva time to get one right.
