Game 118: Dickey vs. Green

Didi Gregorius hit his career-best 10th home run on July 7 of this season; he has added five since, and shows little sign of slowing down. Some of his home runs certainly qualify as lucky - as per ESPN's Home Run Tracker, six are categorized as 'just enough,' and six would have been home runs in no more than eight parks. However, that still leaves nine home runs that were not fluky, so there's no need to temper your excitement about the 26-year-old.

Why do I bring this up now, in this game thread? Simple - he's facing R.A. Dickey tonight. The knuckleballer is in the bottom-ten among qualified starters in HR/9 and HR/FB, and he has allowed 8 HR in 59.0 IP at New Yankee Stadium. He has also surrendered a .256/.342/.476 slash line against lefties this season, including twelve home runs.

With seven or so weeks remaining, 20 home runs is within reach for Gregorius; tonight is a good night to get one step closer to that mark - and he's batting third.

Here's this evening's lineup:

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
  2. Chase Headley, 3B
  3. Didi Gregorius, SS
  4. Mark Teixeira, 1B
  5. Starlin Castro, 2B
  6. Brian McCann, DH
  7. Gary Sanchez, C

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
